Noel Gallagher Turns His Nose Up At Sum 41 Friday April 26, 2002 @ 04:00 PM By: ChartAttack.com Staff
Call them what you will — goons, hooligans, juvenile delinquents — Sum 41 are a lot of things. But one of the "worst bands in the history of music"? That's a little uncalled for, no?
Oasis guitarist/foul-mouthed ****-stirrer, Noel Gallagher, was on the Los Angeles radio station KROQ this week and according to British music site worldpop he took a shot at our favourite Ajax punk band. Gallagher was beaking off about the general crappiness of new American music when the DJ asked him for his thoughts on System Of A Down and Sum 41.
"Doesn't it actually make you feel good to be alive to know you have seen the worst two bands in the history of music?" Noely G. coldly responded.
Who woulda thought? A big-time rocker attacks a Canadian band… and it's not Nickelback.
ChartAttack called up Sum 41's people, but the band simply responded with the dignified "No comment."
This comes only a week after Noel Gallagher resurrected the old feud between his band and fellow Brit-poppers Blur. In addition to bashing Radiohead and the British Pop Idol TV show, Gallagher told British music mag Q that he had no respect for Blur singer Damon Albarn's new project, Gorillaz.
"That c*nt is like, 'Is there a bandwagon passing? Park it outside my house.'" Gallagher said. "He'll be in a heavy metal band next year when it's fashionable. He's nothing. And it's fitting that he ended up as a cartoon. He always was a cartoon."
Dredging up old grudges and picking on the new bands… are we trying to drum up a little publicity for the new album, Noely? Well, it seems to be working. According to the official Oasis website, the debut single off of Oasis' upcoming Heathen Chemistry album, "The Hindu Times," was the #1 selling single in Canada last week. As much as I don't like System of a Down, I wouldn't call them the worst group in the history of music. I mean, you either have to be already rich, attractive enough or talented enough to get a record label to sign you and I don't think they got signed because they were rich or attractive.
